Executive Summary

FFES abides by the teachings of the Medicine Wheel. The medicine wheel is a universal symbol representing learning, connectedness, and the continuous life cycle. In many First Nation cultures, the Medicine Wheel is a teaching tool that consists of seven lessons. Each lesson is associated with four colours: yellow, red, black, and white. Yellow represents growth, light, and fire. Red represents abundance, preservation, and the earth. Black represents maturation, purification, and water. We have developed our own Medicine Wheel to encapsulate who FFES is as a company and what we do. The cyclic nature of the Medicine Wheel helps us present our ideology from the foundation to our greater vision. Our connection with Mother Earth and our belief in the Seven Generations concept is depicted in the alignment and interconnectivity of the circle pictured here.

Medicine Wheels move in a clockwise direction. The outer circle of our wheel represents our greater vision to grow prosperity in community and future generations while protecting Mother Earth and producing sustainable profit.

We have categorized our goals and ideal outcomes by colors representing the traditional teachings. We begin in the yellow quadrant, representing FFES’s place in the energy sector. FFES is dedicated to improving industrial practices through innovation that promotes renewable energy sources and economic growth.

The red quadrant is about reclaiming land and cleansing the environment. Once reclamation is achieved, the land will be preserved and bring abundance to the people and our future generations. Once a space is cleansed, it becomes an open channel for teaching and acquiring knowledge.

The black quadrant continues the theme of purifying our environment and resources, particularly water. Through our commitment to learning and adaptation, FFES provides gold standard water management services.

To conclude one cycle, the white quadrant represents FFES’s intention to

protect our air by eliminating and controlling emissions. The white, or northern quadrant, is also associated with the bear, a brother to the people. The bear represents strength, vitality, courage, health, and leadership. The bear is thought to be independent yet also symbolizes family. Families are extensive networks of solid and connective kinship and are often entire communities. FFES takes all actions with the people in mind creating an

inclusive environment that facilitates growth from an individual to the community level.
